FDA Warned by Prominent Public Health Official About the Dangers of Banning the E Cigarette
Obviously top public health officials are warning the FDA about a potential mistake prior to their assault against the popular smoking alternative known as the e-cigarette.
ST. LOUIS, MO, November 24, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- With top public health officials showing support for the now infamous product and taking an open stand against the FDA, could the agency lose even more credibility and need restructuring to get in line with the real needs of the population?
The FDA and special interest groups have been on an open attack of a product that more and more top public health officials are showing support for as time goes by. At the beginning of the whole legal battle last spring, one health official with a 25 year record of anti-smoking advocacy took a stand against a pre-notification email that was received from the FDA stating their intent to start action against the popular tobacco alternative.
Bill Godshall of Smokefree Pennsylvania sent a return email back to the FDA expressing a major concern that the FDA may be making a huge mistake and even stated that their actions could lead to what Mr. Godshall called an "enormous public health disaster the agency would create by banning smoke free nicotine inhalers called e-cigarettes".
Mr. Godshall also referenced several other sources that expressly claim that the dangers of the e cigarette were small in respect to the dangers of tobacco. This letter, along with letters from other top health officials and supporters obviously fell on deaf ears at the FDA.
"When you have a group of professionals that are speaking out against the status quo that have no financial ties to special interest groups, history has shown that these groups have all been right, but it is usually after the damage is done from these policies and they are not reversed to protect and serve the public after the folly is exposed," states Tiffany Ellis of E Cigarettes National. "Maybe it is time to look at the experts that have nothing to gain for the real information, not some paid pundits who don't use common sense and just want a hard line agenda fulfilled, even at the expense of public health issues for Americans".
